Launched in 2012 by Sidley Austin (an international business law firm), the Emerging Enterprises Pro Bono Program provides free legal support to eligible small and medium-sized for-profit enterprises and market focused NGSOs and non-profits that have a clear social impact in developing countries across Africa, Central & South America, and the Caribbean.
DEFINING SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
As a guest blogger for Mavuno, a non-profit that empowers local leaders in the Congo to drive development efforts, Markey shares insights on the deeper meaning of "social entrepreneurship" and how business can be harnessed for good.

For Markey Culver, it was when she found herself hungry while walking back and forth between her house and the school where she taught English in a small East African village. Markey tells the fascinating story that led her to create The Women's Bakery - a vocational school that teaches the women of Rwanda and Tanzania to bake bread for themselves and for profit. BAKERY PROMISES NEW FUTURE FOR RWANDAN WOMEN
Courtney Lee, class of 2017, shares her experiences in Rwanda and visiting The Women's Bakery in Kigali. A group of MBA students from Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis had the opportunity to attend the most recent TWB graduation. Courtney, along with the rest of the MBA group, are consulting with The Women's Bakery to continue to shape and grow our business model.
GEW IMPACT REPORT HIGHLIGHTS THE WOMEN'S BAKERY!
Last November, The Women's Bakery partnered with Global Entrepreneurship Week in efforts to celebrate entrepreneurship efforts in the country - and around the world! Alexandra Laccarino has combined her love of running and passion for TWB together: she's currently running across East Africa in efforts to support bakery-launch efforts for TWB. Additionally, Allie, along with MASS Design Group, is designing a prototype fuel-efficient oven and bakery-in-a-box design to be used throughout Rwanda. ROAD TRIP NATION Q&A WITH MARKEY CULVER
Road Trip Nation, a production company partnered with PBS, interviewed TWB Founder, Markey Culver, to learn more about the TWB story and how we do what we do. Road Trip Nation features successful professionals and entrepreneurs from around the country to encourage youth to explore who they are and what they want to do in the future.
