Staying Healthy, Staying Connected

“In Our Words”

Francoise, Kigali Flagship Program Manager

“This year has been complicated due to Covid-19 and the operation pauses our bakeries experienced. A highlight has been our ability to keep our staff safe during this  uncertain time. We’ve been able to adjust to new guidelines  and requirements to keep us all safe and healthy, while  continuing to produce bread products in a safe way. Through this challenging time, we’ve continued to connect with  communities and provide nutritious bread to families, allowing  us to live our mission of providing healthy bread products to  underserved communities.

The Kigali bakery acts as a community hub for locals and  also for tourists and other working professionals who enjoy our  bakery for its atmosphere and remote working set-up. But the  Kigali bakery also delivers bread products to surrounding communities, extending our reach to families and children. My hope  is to secure a company vehicle that we can use to safely deliver  more products to more people.

The strong women bakers at Kigali have continued to shine throughout a challenging year. A most favorite moment of my  day is hearing my team laughing together while they work. It’s a daily reminder of the joy that emits from empowered women.  I can’t think of anything more reflective of the values and mission of The Women’s Bakery is having on Rwandan women.”
