2019 in Review

Please join us in celebrating several noteworthy highlights from 2019:

  • We sold 570,000 units of bread in Rwanda! That’s an average of over 12,000 units per week, an 85% increase from last year!*

  • Generous donors made it possible to purchase two hardbodies - delivery vehicles - that created expanded access to affordable TWB bread in lower-income communities.

  • Buildout for two of three on-site daycares began, which will provide working moms a safe space for their babies, also made possible by dedicated TWB donors. (If you’d like to meet the gap to fund the final baby house, please donate here.)

  • We hired new employees, including bakers, Cafe Operations Managers, Cafe Assistants, and Sales Agents.

  • Implementation of the Whole Woman Programming continued, including gender equality training from the Paper Crown at our Gicumbi bakery.

We have big plans for 2020! At our bakeries, we are focused on significantly increasing bread sales to provide more families which access to quality, affordable bread. We are eager to continue expanding the Whole Woman Programming by offering a wider variety of services (such as financial literacy training). Beginning this month, a grant from the Abbott Fund will allow partnership with a local school in Gicumbi. An additional 365 students ages five to thirteen will be consuming our bread (containing 4-7 grams of protein per serving) every school day. To measure the impact of these bread snacks, we are working closely with teachers.

Thank you for your ongoing, salient support of The Women’s Bakery that made these successes possible. We look forward to the goals and growth of 2020, and are grateful to share the journey with you!

Together, we rise.
